The YBS is affiliated to the Budgerigar Society which is the recognized governing body of the fancy and in turn local budgerigar & cage bird societies are affiliated to the YBS,

Some advantages of joining the YBS are

1. Members can obtain official rings with their own individual code number which enables them to compete in young bird classes at BS (if a member) and YBS patronage shows.

2. The YBS offers excellent trophies, rosettes & cash specials for competition at patronage shows &  local affiliated society members shows.

3. The YBS issues a yearbook containing the names & addresses of it's members, particulars of local affiliated societies, the society rules & other valuable information, as well as 2 issues each year of "Budgie Bits" which contains informative & interesting articles & advice by experienced fanciers as well as YBS & local society news & comment.
